A toast to pies, wines and fritters and friends

Everyone loves pies. This may be the biggest thing I have learned in catering. And it’s proven every November at Toast Martinborough, for 26 years.

This year we are serving three pies (Thai Chicken Curry, Pulled Beef Short Rib and Swiss Cheese, and Roasted Vegetable and Blue Cheese), plus my best-ever Sausage Rolls. Which are pretty similar to pies, after all.

Everyone loves ice cream too. From 4pm in Martinborough’s leafy Square, we are serving our outstanding ice creams as guests enjoy music and dancing to conclude a great day out with friends.

Fritters are next-most-popular: our famous Whitebait and its vegetarian companion Corn, served with new season’s asparagus and Hollandaise. Some people just ask for the asparagus and sauce, and that’s fine too.

Suckling pig was a big hit last year so is back again: spit-roasted premium Murellen pork, with apple sauce, jus and chutneys. I advise you to get in quickly for this, as it’s being served with the divine 2013 Ata Rangi McCrone Pinot Noir.  (Limited availability, tickets sold at whitebait station)

Not forgetting the Clevedon Coast Oysters from 11am until they run out. Which I am picking will be less than two hours.  Enjoy with Ata Rangi 2011 Craighall Riesling.  And the crème brûlée and the cheese scones and the range of delightful little cakes and pastries.

So, I look forward to seeing many of you at Ata Rangi vineyard, our Toast Martinborough home for 26 years now (Sunday 19 November, book https://premier.ticketek.co.nz/shows/show.aspx?sh=TOAST17
